When the melt of KCl is rapidly cooled into a single crystal in a crucible, there occurs a complicated crystal growth with corresponding patterns on the spontaneously cleaved surface. In the present paper, the growth direction is estimated macroscopically as follows : (i) It is observed that the direction of the step line previously reported lies along the direction of the crystal growth, whereas the distribution of impurity concentration does not fit with the usual segregation rule. (ii) The above result can be explained qualitatively by an additional assumption that, when the crystal has a higher growth-rate in the <100> direction, a sudden change of the growth direction is accompanied locally by a region of high concentration of the impurity.
