The plasma behavior in a cavity of a D-3^He inertial confinement fusion reactor is analyzed to estimate the efficiency of a direct energy recovery system using a capacitor diode load circuit. In the D-3^He reactor, most of the fusion output is carried by charged particles. It is therefore desirable to use a direct energy conversion scheme for effective recovery of fusion energy. The results of a two-dimensional particle simulation indicate that the energy extracted from the direct energy recovery system using the capacitor diode load circuit is 70〜80% of the plasma energy at the maximum plasma expansion in the applied magnetic field of the cavity.
