Chromosomal localization of telomere sequence repeats (TTTAGGG)_n was determined in five gymnosperm species, Cryptomeria japonica, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Pinus densiflora, P. thunbergii and Ginkgo biloba by fiuorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Telomere sequence repeats were hybridized to both ends of each chromosome in all the five species. Non-telomeric FISH signals were also observed at the satellite and proximal region in Cunninghamia lanceolata, and the interstitial regions and centromeric regions in Pinus densiflora and P. thunbergii.
