Glutamate Synthase in Greening Pea Shoots

The activity offerredoxin-glutamate synthase in etiolated pea shoots increased during greening in accordance with the increase in chlorophyll contents, while NADH-glutamate synthase activity did not change. The increase in the ferredoxin-dependent activity was inhibited by either cycloheximide or chloramphenicol. Both glutamate synthase enzymes were found to be located in the plastids.
