Protochlorophyll(ide) was isolated from dark-grown wild type and mutant C-2A' cells of Scenedesmus obliquus after dark incubation with 5-aminolevulinate. Protochlorophyll(ide) was detected in mutant cells grown heterotrophically at 29℃ or at 21℃. At the latter temperature chlorophyll synthesis was significant. Regulation of chlorophyll synthesis in algae is discussed.
