During germination of winter wheat, the activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, aldolase and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase increased initially and subsequently decreased. This change occurred very slowly when the seedlings were treated with low temperature. In spring wheat, however, no increase was detected in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity. Activities of these enzymes were low when assayed at low temperature, however, the decrease rate was different for different enzymes.
