Imaginal behaviour of Lycaena phlaeas daimio SEITZ is studied with special reference to interactions among males. Each perching male shows apparent residentiality to a specific area and approaches any species which is flying in rapidly fluttering the wings. Conspecifics are then pursued until they alight or fly away. The pursuit of males, so-called territorial behaviour, is considered to be unsuitable mating response owing to male's incapability in distinguishing between the sexes. The male can discriminate the female from others by under surface of the wings when an individual is in resting posture.
