This is collection of the answers to the questionnaire which auther carried out to investigate the actual applications of the electroslag welding, and its derived method, electrogas welding and electroslag welding with consumable nozzle which has been applied recently in Japanese heavy construction industries, and obtained the author's conclusion. The author divided the fields of the applications of this welding process into two, as follows. One (field I) is welding of heavy thickness plate structures which can be for positioning, and characterized that welding apparatus are large and fixed, and operated indoors. Boiler drum and heavy machnie industries belong to this field. The other (field II) is mainly welding of medium thickness plates in large-sized structures which are too large to be for positioning. these welding apparatus are caracterised to be portable and operated mainly outdoors. Shipbuilding and steel structure constructing industries belong to this field. On the basis of this classification, the author states about the outlook of real condition of vertical automatic welding in Japan and attempts to orientate this welding, by introducing new technique, multi-electrodes welding, "Multi Welded Vessel" and "Hines Welding Method".
