Two patients who suffered from urinary retention were refered to biofeedback monitoring of urinary residual volume. These patients were not able to regulate their symptoms only with this method. Then, therapists offered a proposal of operant reward during this program. Both of them were able to decrease residual urine volume and improved from urinary retention. Although these patients were not successful in the regulation of own urinary residual volume when they were suggested to be discharged from the hospital if they met the condition of improving urinary retention, 4 their success seemed to be due to clinical interventions both with biofeedback and rewarding.
