A 64-year-old male patient had kept to complain severe pain of surgical scar after an operation of lung cancer. Local anesthesia and epidural block were not effective. Then, electro-myographic(EMG) biofeedback therapy with P-303 (Cyborg Company) was attempted to relax internal and external costal muscle contractions. The initial EMG level (30μV) dramatically decreased to 3μV after one hour therapy, then reached down to1.25μV by further therapy. By 2 weeks' therapy, the post surgical pain disappeared almost completely and the EMG level was successfully suppressed. This case suggests that EMG biofeedback therapy is one of the effective treatments for the post-surgical refractory pain intensified by the sustained muscle contraction.
