A sensitive fluorescence high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using 9-anthryldiazomethane(ADAM) has been developed for the separation and determination of 5,8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in serum and vital blood of fishes and in body fluid of plankton which are living in sea water. A part of the serum and vital blood of fishes diluted with water or the body fluid of plankton was purified by passing through a micro grass column packed with "Extrelut" by using chloroform as the eluent. After esterifying the desired constituent in the eluate with ADAM, an aliquot of the ester was analyzed by the present reversed phase HPLC method.
