In this paper are presented the results of some investigations carried out to ascertain whether the formation of high energy phosphate bonds during the course of respiration and their transfer reactions controlled by the adenylic acid system for bringing about the free energy changes are inhibited by VK_3,VK_5,VK_3-Na-bisulfite.1) Uptake of inorganic phosphate by Escherichia coli was remarkably inhibited in the presence of low concentration of the VK components.2) Oxidative assimilation of glucose by Escherichia coli or Tolura utilis, and fermentative assimilation of the same substrate by Sacchromyces sake or baker's yeast were inhibited by the VK compounds.
