The effect of carbon dioxide on the growth of baker's yest during cultivatioin in an oxygen rich environment was investigated. The growth fo baker's yeast decreased with high concentrations of carbon dioxide in the exit gas and increased with low concentrations. When the carbon dioxide concentration in the exit gas increased from 3 to 43 percent, the growth yield of baker's yeast decreased percent in the constantly fed-batch culture. The baker's yeast converted glucose into carbon dioxide at a high rate when the concentration of carbon dioxide in the exit gs was high.
