Herbicidin A and 9-β-D-arabinofuranosyl adenine (ara-A) productivities of Streptomyces saganonensis were found to be inversely correlated. Both herbicidin A and ara-A productivites were affected by the concentration of NH_4Cl, KH_2PO_4 and MgSO_4・7H_2O in the culture medium, and glucose concentration and pH during the production phase. When the fermentation conditions were established for the ara-A production, herbicidin A production was suppressed and ara-A titer was enhanced. The addition of guanosine stimulated ara-A production preferentially.
