A mutant which produced 100% more amyloglucosidase than the parent strain was obtained by treatment with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). The mutant (MNNG mutant) was morphologically identical with the parent strain, Asper-gillus awamori NRRL 3112. This strain was irradiated with ultraviolet light to give a mutant(MNNG-UV mutant) with different growth characteristics on malt yeast agar to the MNNG mutant. The MNNG-UV mutant produced less conidia on malt yeast agar, Sabouraud dextrose agar and Czapek solution agar than the parent ane MNNG mutant, although productivity of amyloglucosidase was similar to that of the MNNG mutant.
