We analyzed the stability of disk spindle supported by a full cylindrical fluid journal bearing and pivot bearing. We found that a half frequency whirl of vertical spindle caused by the full cylindrical journal fluid bearing becomes stable if the gyro factor of the rotor is larger than 0.5. We clarified that the bottom of the spindle shaft should be supported by a spherical grooved pivot bearing.
