In order to realize a recording track density of 200kTPI in hard disk drives (HDDs), we set a control bandwidth target of 3.6kHz on the track following control in this study. The natural frequency of the lowest out-of-phase vibration mode of the positioning mechanism is required to be more than 11kHz. Considering recent trend of HDD we assumed a near-future type HDD with single 2.5-inch magnetic disk and single side recording. In the paper we presents a high natural frequency positioning mechanism. The FEM (finite element method) analysis result of the proposed head positioning mechanism shows that its first out-of-phase mode is 11.2kHz. It is experimentally confirmed that its first out-of-phase mode is about 9kHz.
