C210 STUDY OF EIGHT DIFFERENT ADVECTION SCHEMES ON NATURAL CONVECTION OF LOW-PRANDTL-NUMBER FLUID(Natural convection in enclosure-2)

Numerical computations based on a control-volume finite difference method were carried out for natural convection of low-Prandtl-number fluid within a square cavity. A PISO algorithm was employed to deal with the linkage between pressure and velocity. Eight advection schemes were employed to approximate the convection terms. The numerical studies were performed for the case, Pr=0.025 and Ra =5×10^5 with two kinds of meshes. It is found that only higher-order schemes appear suitable for natural convection of low-Prandtl-number fluid. Furthermore, sensitivities of the momentum equation and the energy equation to these schemes were studied. It is found that higher-order schemes should be employed for the momentum equation but for energy equation computed results depended on these schemes scarcely.
