A Heavy-Fermion State with Singular Density of States

The metaznagnetic belaavior of CeRttzSiz and the non Ferrni-liqvxid behavior of CeNi3Ge3 aredescribed by the periodic Coqblin-Schrief['er taaodel with ?rnisotropic c-.f exch?rnge izateraction inthe tnean-field theory. Only the Kranaers dotrlclet of Ai j :: -l-5 /2 for the 4.f' states of Ce ions isconsidered, for the case of which the density of qu;rsi-particle states has singularity of l(Jl "'around the effective ./-level energy. In the asymrnetric case applicable to CeRuzSiz, the chernicalpotential reaches the singtrlarity at 21 finite raaagnetic field, at which the rt?agnetization shows ata?etarnagnetic-like incre?tse. On the other hatuad, in the syuaautaetric case ?tpplic;tile to CeNixGex,the chenaical potential is on the singularity at zero ?aaagnetic field, and non-Ferrni-liquid-likebehaviors etaaerge in the strsceptibility and the specific heat.
