The nuclear quadrupole interaction of Fe^<57> in spinel type oxides was investigated by means of Mossbauer experiments of the 14.4keV gamma rays from Fe^<57m>. On octahedral sites in ZnFe_2O_4, a spectrum split symmetrically into two lines was observed in paramagnetic state, which is attributed to the nuclear quadrupole splitting in ferric ions arising from the trigonal field on B site. As for tetrahedral sites of the spinel structure, similar spectra to the former case were observed in FeNiAIO_4 and FeNiCrO_4. The origin of the quadrupole interaction in these samples is considered to be due to the distribution of divalent and trivalent ions on B sites which establishes the local charge neutrality. In FeAl_2O_4, which has homogeneous B sites, only one sharp absorption dip was observed.
