XX7e report a real-space renorrnalization grotmp (RSRG) algorithm, which is forunttlated throttghBaxter's corner transfer taaatrix (CTIVI), for two-dirnensional (d : 2) classical lattice tnodels. Thenew method performs the renorrnalization grotrp transf'ormation according to White's densitymatrix algorithm, so tlaat variational free energies are minitnized within a restricted degreeof freedotn. As a conseqtrence of the renornaalization, spin variables on each corner of CTMare replaced by a m-state block spin variable. It is shown that the thermodynamic ftrnctionsand critical exponents of the q : 2, 3 Potts raaodels can be precisely evaluated by use of' therenormalization group unethod.
