Localization in Landau Subbands with the Landau Quantum Number 0 and 1 of Si-MOS Inversion Layers

Quantum transport experiments of Si-MOS inversion layers have been done at fern-peratures between 50 mK and 1.45 K and in magnetic fields betweexx 14 and 23 T usingsamples having two grades of electron mobility. The Hall conductivity were analyzedemploying a model calculation to derive the temperature dependence and themagnetic field dependence of the mobility edge. At low temperatures, the mobilityedge was independent of temperature and independent of magnetic field suggestingthe mobility edge is dominated by a macroscopic potential fluctuations. The tempera-lure dependence of the mobility edge at high temperatures can not be explained by theexisting theory of Iocalization in Landau subbands in two dimensional systems andthat of the temperature dependence of the inelastic scattering in the zero magneticfield.
