Quasilinear development of Alfv<Sn loss-cone instability by thermonuclear cz-par-ticles in a magnetic mirror system is investigated. The Alfv<Sn wave is excited byanisotropy in the cc-particle velocity distribution due to loss-cones, and cc-particles arescattered by the excited waves. After considerations on the dispersion relation andresonance condition for Alfv<Sn and magneto-acoustic waves, the system ofquasilinear equations for the Alfv<Sn loss-cone instability is solved analytically in thesteady state and numerically to obtain a time-dependent solution. It is assumed thatsome fraction of the wave energy is reflected at the edge of the machine. The distribu-lion function, density and loss fraction of cx-particles and the wave energy density areobtained and analysed. The results show that the a-particle loss by the quasilineardiffusion can be very large compared to the one by collisional diffusion.
