The higher order corrections to the instability of an Alfven wave, propagating along an external magnetic field in a plasma of anisotropic pressure components, are considered on the basis of the Vlasov equations. It is shown that terms of the order of 1/Ω_i^2, besides those of 1/Ω_i (Ω_i=the gyro-frequency of an ion), should be retained as correction terms to the lowest order (Chew-Goldberger-Low) dispersion relation to obtain a correct criterion of stability. The result is to expand slightly the region of instability, and there is no "finite Larmor radius stabilization effect" as obtained from the modified C. G. L. approximation.
