We consider the problem of the determination of the onset time of Rayleigh-B<Snard convection in a fluid layer confined between two horizontal planes dueto time-dependent heating from below and random fluctuations. Both boundariesare taken to be rigid and perfectly conducting. Using the expansion in terms ofeigenfunctions of the stationary Rayleigh-B<Board convection, the problem isreduced to a random initial value problem, which is solved by a Monte Carloteclmique. Onset times of convection are predicted for various Rayleigh numbersand heating manners. Numerical results are in good agreement with availableexperimental data.
