ESR Study on Impurity-Vacancy Aggregation in Eu^<2+> Doped and (Eu^<2+>,M^<2+>) Doped KCl

The aggregates of Eu" ions doped singly or doubly with M"(M=Sr, Ca,Cd) in KCI are investigated during aging process of quenched crystals with ESRat 10, 24 and 34 GHz. New ESR spectra are found corresponding to the aggrega-lion stages in KCI: (Eu", Sr"). At 200 to 500 hours after quenching, the ESRsignal due to Eu" in cubic field appears with the values of g=2.OO2, A""32.0x10 'cm ' and Z>3=25.9xl0 'cm ', respectively. The spectrum forthe final aggregation stage for 1000 hours is accounted for by assuming M"-vacancy clusters containing several Eu"-vacancy dipoles and g=I.99O andb')=620><10 'cm ", A""= -32.4xl0 'cm ' are determined. After furtherannealing, a broad line with a line width of about 500 oersted appears as theresult of the exchange interaction.
