Bethe Approximation for X-Ray Diffuse Scattering Due to Orientational Disorder in RbNO_3

X-ray diffuse scattering due to multi-orientational disorder of NO.- ions incubic RbN0. of CsCl type is analysed with Nagai's formula, which is derivedby the Bethe approximation. The probabilities of pair cotigurations of theneighbouring NO; ions are determined with 12-orientation tnodel. From theseprobabilities, the configurational entropy is estimated with 'T'akagi's method tobe 7<ln2.6J/mol-deg, which is not incompatible with the transition entropyfrom the lower temperature phase (P3.). It is believed th'at the Bethe approxima-lion can well describe a disordered phase bearing a partial strong correlation dueto a short range repulsive interaction.
