A low-lying 5/2- (0.373 Men) state and a 3/2 (0.593 MeV) state in "Ca,and a 5/2 (0.176 MeV) state of "Ca were studied by means of the (d, p) reactionabove and below the Coulomb barrier. The angular distributions and the excitationfunctions were measured for these weakly excited states, and tlte obtained datatogether with the reported data at E.=7.0 and 10.0 MeV were analyzed using thesecond-order DWBA and the statistical compound model. For the 5/2- and the3/2 states of "Ca, the contribution from the direct process plays a significantrole and gives evidence of the single particle component in the wave functions ofthese states, but this process can hardly be considered for the 5/2 (0.176 MeV)state of "Ca.4NUCLEAR REACTIONS ""'Card, p), E=2, 3, 4 and 4.5 MeV; meas- ')( ured o(E; E, 0).
