The forced volume magnetostriction 8co/8h and the electronic contributionto the bulk modulus B. in FeNi alloy are calculated with use of the Libemian-Pettifor virial theorem and the full single site approximation in the 2-field func-tional integral method in order to clarify the origin of the Invar effect. It is shownthat the large 8co/8h in the Invar region is caused by the large temperature varia-tion of the derivative of (m;.) (the amplitude of the Fe local moment) withrespect to the field h, the softening of the bulk modulus by the increase of thevolume change of<ffit.>. It is found that the minimum in B. occurs below T.because of the suppression of the temperature variation of<.m:.). The high-fieldsusceptibility, the paramagnetic spin susceptibility and 8T./8P are also calculated.
