EPR Study of Ni^<2+>-Vacancy Dipoles in LiCl Crystals

The paramagnetic resonance spectra of Ni" in LiC] have been studied at9 GHz. Two ldnds of Ni" centers associated with positive ton vacancy in theirnearest or next nearest neighbour position arc observed. Their spin Hamiltonianparameters are determined to be g.=2.273O.O4, y,=2.26.j.0.02, y.=2.3l .5o.ot,DI =0.564.l,0.002 cm ',' IE l=0.080!.0.002 cm ', and .vzz'=2.360i0.005, t.2.30.f0.05,?7)?=3.lj0.3cm "and ?f?:0.0cm ".The Ni"-vacancy dipoles aggregated to form clusters and the isolated dipolesdecayed in number. The decay constant of third order rate process is about1.2 x 10' h '(mole fraction)-' at room tempetature.The EPR line width depends upon the crystal orientation. Interaction betweennear neighbour dipoles contributed to this anisotropic line width.
