The nonlinear Landatt damping and growth of c:lectrostatic; waves in an electrornbeam-plasma system in a magnetic field have been observed. The space chargewave of the beanx decays nornlinearl)' into the ur?stab1e Trixxelpiece-Gould modeexcited linearly by the cyclotron cotuplinag with the beam. Tl:e resonant conditionco. -co. -(k7 /. -k7,.)v. =rnco. (m is an integer) is satisfied, ztnd this nonresonantdecay is dtte to the nonlinear interaction of two waves with the beam. The decaywave can be amplified exponentially by increasing the arnplitude of the pumpwave. The nonlinear Lattdata damping eouplir?g coefficier?t measured experi-mentally is compared with theory.
