Nonlinear absorption due to nonlinear Landau damping of' lower-hybrid waves isinvestigated theoretically by analyzing the kinetic wave equations which describenonlinear Landau damping of electrostatic waves propagating almost perpendicularlyto the magnetic field. It is shown that nonlinear Ton-cyclotron damping can cause anonlinear absorption by bulk Tons at co / co.,< 1.2 - 1.5, and nonlinear electron Lan-dau damping can cause an efficient nonlinear absorption by bulk electrons atw/u.).>1.5 -2. The former nonlinear absorption depends on k.p, and weaklydepends on the electron temperature. The latter depends on thc electron temperaturestrongly.[nonlinearlower- ll hybridcoefficient, fJ plasmatelectron Landau damping, nonlinear ion-cyclotrccn damping, wave, nonlinear absorption, nonlinear wave-particle coouplingheating
