Starting from the macroscopic equations with electrostatic approximation, the wave modes and the instability conditions are discussed on both anti-drift wave and pseudo-ion cyclotron wave. When the magnetic field is not so strong as to affect the ion motion, the anti-drift wave is shown to become unstable by taking by taking into account the electron transverse motion. Pseudo-ion cyclotron mode is introduced as a part of the branch of drift dissipative wave, by taking into account the effects of finite ion intertia, and the instability conditions are also discussed. Both positive column and diffusion type plasma in a longitudinal uniform magnetic field are used to check the theory. In a mercury positive column anti-drift waves are observed, and in a helium positive column or a diffusion type plasma, pseudo-ion cyclotron waves. The discrepancy between the theoretical and the experimental results, especially in a diffusion type plasma, is discussed as the effects of a radial electric field.
