A theory of the Raman scattering of light due to spin systems in magnetic crystals is developed by using the spin dependent electric polarizability. The polarization characteristics of the scattering, the scattering intensity and its temperature dependence are treated with particular referenc to antiferromagnetic iron group fluorides, where one- and two-magnon scatterings have been observed. Agreement between the theory and the experimental results is satisfactory.
