Far Infrared Absorption by Two Magnon Excitations in Aniferromagnets

Absorption coeffcient is calculated for electric dipole transitions asscciated with two magnon excitations in antiferromagnets on the mechanism proposed in a previous note. The theory is applied to the rutile type iron group fluorides. Far infrared absorption peaks observed in FeF_2 and CoF_2 are interpreted reasonably. Predictions are made as to absorptions in MnF_2 and NiF_2. Possible linear electric field effects are pointed out for a pair of magnetic ions and for antiferromagnets. Finally magnon sidebands in the optical spectra of antiferromagnets are discussed qualitatively.
