Point contact between platinum needle and cuprous sulfide in its γ-phase (<105℃) shows d.c characteristics which is apparently quite similar to those of metal-semiconductor rectifiers. This, however, must be attributed to ionic conduction in the semiconductor. A theoretical consideration shows that the V-I characteristics are given by eV/kT=log(1+AI) as in the theory of rectification and that the time of relaxation depends on the effective contact area, s, electronic conductivity, σ_h, and ionic conductivity, σ_i, as sσ_h/σ_i. The experimental results show fairly good agreement with the theory.
