Electronic and Ionic Conduction in Cu_<2-δ>Se, Cu_<2-δ>S and Cu_<2-δ>(Se, S)

Usinu the zalvanic cell CulCuBr'C<;F[tzN+CHeBrlCuz-aV[lPt, the deviation Jfrom the stoichiometric composition is varied up to 0.2 for Cu.=,Se, Cuz=jS andtheir alloys. Electronic conductivity, thermoelectric power and Hall coefficientare measured as functions of e.m.f. of the cell, E, and of temperature, T, (2O'Cx200'C). The phase diagrams are constructed front these results, especially fromE vs T plots, and the electrical properties arc interpreted by the use of a simplemodel. Further, the ionic conductivity is measured with the use of the cell in lowtemperature phase as well as in high temperature one. The value of E seems notto represent the Fermi kinetic energy even in the high temperature phase havingthe average structure. This is because of the largeness of c5, and can be interpretedas being due to the screening effect of carricrs (holes) on copper ion vacancies.
