Free radical production in isolated hepatocytes and perfused liver after treatment of carbon tetrachloride was visualized by a digital imaging microfluorography using a fluorescent probe, dichlorofluorescin (DCFH). Hepatic cell damage was also analyzed by another probe, propidium iodide (PI). This technique allowed us a spatial and temporal analysis of carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress, and revealed a pathogenetic relevance of oxidative stress to hepatic zone 3 damage.
