Magnetic properties and the ground-state energy of a one- dimensional anisotropic exchange-coupled chain with S=1/2 are investigated in the Hartree-Fock approximation. The validity of the Hartree-Fock approximation in our system is discussed by comparing our solution with the rigorous results at zero temperature. The results are compared with the experimental data on a single crystal of Copper Dichloride Dipyridine (CuCl_2 2(NC_5H_5)). The theoretical magnetic susceptibility gives a good agreement with the measured susceptibility from 7°K to 70°K for |J_⊥|/k_B=17.1°K and |J_II|/k_B=13.4°K where J_⊥ and J_II are the perpendicular and parallel component of the exchange integral.
