On the basis of the observation that the algebra associated with the local k-super-symmetry in the Green-Schwarz superstring theory in d=2 closes off-shell, Lorentz covariant quantization of the theory is performed using the generalized Hamiltonian formalism of Batalin, Fradkin and Vilkovisky. The conformal algebra of a quantum mechanically consistent, gauge-fixed theory, which can be interpreted as a k-symmetric extension of conformal topological gravity, is discussed.
