In a certain class of difTerential-differ'ence equatioras for dissipative systeraas, we shoxv thathyperbolic tangent model is the only the nonlinear' systenn of equations which can admit sounepartictrlar solutions of the Toda lattice. We give or?e pararneter family of exact soltttions, whichinclude as special cases the Toda lattice soltrtions as well as the Whithazn's solutions in theNewell's model. Ovrr soltmtions can be used to descril*e ternporal-spatial density patterns observedin the optimal velocity nuodel for traffic flow.
