Effects of Hadron-Formation Zone on the Decay-Angle Distribution in Coherent Production on Nuclei

It is pointed out that the decay-angle distribution in coherent production on nuclei is quite different from that in hadron-hadron diffraction dissociation, if some of the produced particles cannot interact with the nucleons inside the nucleus. Using a simple double-scattering model for the reaction ND→(πN)D, we show how the angular distribution appears in case the produced π or N is inactive. The results may be extended to the reaction NA→(πN)A. The above assumption is closely connected with a multi-chain model for incoherent production, in which the secondary particles from the chain are assumed to pass through the nucleus without interaction.
