Coupling Constant Relations and Effective Lagrangian in the Type I Superstring : Particles and Fields

The relation between loop expansion parameters g_<op> for open strings and g_<cl> for closed strings is explicitly determined in the type I superstring with SO(N) gauge group (N=32 for the anomaly cancellation). This is translated to the relation between the gauge coupling constant g_<YM> and the gravitational coupling constant κ in the effective field theory Lagrangian. It is found that the compactification on a torus with arbitrary shape and size does not affect the relation.
