A Model for Shock Waves in High Energy Heavy ion Collisions

A microscopic model for the shock waves in high energy heavy-ion collisions is presented. Shock wave state is described as a coherently excited phonon state. In nuclear matter this state corresponds to the classical shock wave under certain conditions. These conditions are not satisfied in the actual nuclei. It is shown, however, that the angular distribution of the flying out nucleons has a peak which indicates an existence of a strong spatial correlation among nucleons similar to the one expected when shock waves occur.
