The characteristics of the strong interaction of baryons are investigated phenomenologically. It is shown that U(3)-invariance is fairly well satisfied in the strong interactions of baryons. The validity of U(3)-invariance seems to give a new clue to classify various baryons into U(3)-multiplets. For example, it is shown that Y_1(J^p=5/2^-) is a member of unitary octet together with N_<1/2>(J^p=5/2^). The characteristics of the strong decay of several undiscovered baryons are predicted. The characteristics beyond U(3)-invariance of the strong interaction of baryons which were discovered by one of the present authors are examined in detail.
