It is shown that Matsuda's theorem on special frequencies in the vibrational frequency spectrum of isotopically disordered diatomic chain is just a special case of Theorem IV presented in the second paper of this series. The physical content of the theorem is clarified, and an expression which gives the critical mass ratio for every special frequency is derived. From this we can obtain the distribution of special frequencies for any given mass ratio. It is shown further that the theorem can easily be generalized to the case of polyatomic chain.
