It is shown that a Dirac field which obeys the parafermi commutation relations for order 2 and satisfies only the locality condition of the weaker form leads to two species of particles with unequal masses. A consistent relativistic theory is formulated for such a field by assuming that observables take different forms in the even and odd sectors of the state-vector space. The theory is then applied to describing leptons. The μ-e universality is found to be a natural consequence of the formalism. A theorem is proved that if any one of the lepton, muon and electron numbers obeys a superselection rule, so do the other two as well.
