A model of elementary particles based on parafermi field theory is discussed. Urbaryons (that constitute hadrons) and leptons are assumed to be described by parafermi fields of p=odd and p=2, respectively (p: order), and the theory is subject to the minimal gauge group O(p)_h×SO(2)_l. It is emphasized that the existence of the gauge group is a natural consequence of the locality condition of the theory.
