The attenuation of first sound waves near the λ-point of liquid helium is discussed in the framework of the relaxation matrix method. The dynamical scaling laws are applied to analyze the critical behavior of the attenuation constant of first sound. On providing an indication of the lingering residual superfluid behavior for finite wave vectors slightly above the λ-point, it is shown that experimental data support the dynamical scaling laws. The temperature and the frequency dependence of the attenuation constant are not independent. It is shown that if the attenuation has a ω^2-dependence (helium II), then it turns out to be proportional to (T_λ-T)^<-1>, and if it is proportional to ω^<5/4> (helium I), we have a (T-T_λ)^<-1/2> behavior.
