We have made a systematic study of the upper transitions in the solid solution of CH_4 and CD_4 and in the solid states of pure CH_3D and CHD_3, on the basis of the quantum statistical mechanics of the James-Keenan model. The calculations were carried out including J up to 9 in the case of CH_4-CD_4 solid solution and up to 8 in the cases of CH_3D and CHD_3, J being the rotational quantum number. Normal and equilibrium mixtures of nuclear spin species as well as each pure species were treated. It was found that the upper transition of either CH_3D or CHD_3 almost coincides with that of solid solution of CH_4 and CD_4 with the same mean molecular weight, in agreement with experiment.
